COVID-19 ANNOUNCEMENTS

JULY 15, 2022 UPDATE:

• US Lawful Residents and Citizens can fly into Italy without proof of vaccination nor negative test

• US Lawful Residents and Citizens returning to the USA can do so freely and without a negative test (you have one Contact Tracing Form to fill out and submit electronically before boarding - your airline provides this upon check in)

• Cov-19 is not over yet, traveler friends. While Italy and the US are practically fully open again now, please be aware of your surroundings and continue to wear heavy masks in crowds and on transportation. You will be denied boarding to Italy and to the US if your temperature is high of if you look sick. Temperatures are measured automatically in Italian airports as you walk around the terminal (so you can’t escape detection - and shouldn’t)

MAY 22, 2022 UPDATE:

• VACCINATED travelers:

  • no longer need a negative Covid-19 test to enter Italy (do bring your cdc card in case it is needed within italy)

• UPON RETURNING TO THE USA:

  • passengers will need a negative Covid-19 test taken 24 hours prior to departure in order to fly home

• DIGITAL PASSENGER LOCATOR FORM:

  • is no longer needed to enter Italy

• IN ITALY:

  • masks are optional outdoors

  • masks are obligatory on transportation and in museums

  • vaccination record is no longer needed for dining indoors or outdoors (but bring it in case it is needed)

December 1, 2021 UPDATE:

Brand new rule change for Covid-19 Vaccinated people in Italy (valid from December 6, 2021 to January 15, 2022):

• VACCINATED individuals from the US need to show the official CDC Vaccination Card in order to dine indoors, visit museums, take public transportation, and attend events (Italians also need to abide by this “Super Green Pass” rule)

  • Life is as close to being normal for vaccinated individuals here in Italy. as it gets at the moment, so if you are vaccinated, you are going to have a GREt time here in Italy with us :)

• NON-VACCINATED individuals will be prohibited from doing any of the above mentioned activities

  • Before December 6th 2021, non-vaccinated individuals could show a negative covid-19 test taken within 48 hours of any event dinner reservation or museum visit, etc… this negative Covid-19 test is no longer sufficient - starting December 6th, 2021

• DIGITAL PASSENGER LOCATOR FORM continues to be mandatory and is to be filled out electronically prior to landing in Italy: https://app.euplf.eu/#/

SEPTEMBER 1, 2021 UPDATE:

One change to the travel rules set upon US travelers, by the European Union (valid from September 1 to October 25, 2021):

1. NON-vaccinated travelers are no longer allowed to visit Europe (until October 25, 2021 at the very least)

2. YES-vaccinated travelers continue to be allowed to visit Europe but must now show a negative RT-PCR Covid-19 test result pre flight

The Delta variant is out of control in the USA, so the European Union has revised their lax rules for tourism travel. All summer 2021, anyone (vaccinated and non-vaccinated) was welcome to Italy, provided there was evidence of vaccine administration or negative Covid test. Because of the Delta variant running wild in the USA, Italy has closed its tourism borders to non-vaccinated travelers from the US. Those of us whom are fully vaccinated, may absolutely still travel to Italy, but must present a negative RT-PCR Covid-19 test (taken up to 72 hours before ARRIVAL into Italy) along with our CDC vaccination card. No quarantine required.

AUGUST 24, 2021 UPDATE:

A few new rules are in place in Italy for travelers.

These new rules are in place to allow more tourism in Italy (which has been starved for entirely too long), to “reward” those whom took the vaccine to be able to be a bit more free than before, and to make sure establishments in Italy are more safe (by requiring proof of vaccination or negative rest before anyone enters anything indoors). But this new mandate does not guarantee that Italy is free of Covid. You still need to do your due diligence in being as safe as possible by distancing when possible, and wearing a mask when no distancing is possible. Rome has the highest vaccination rate in all of Italy (86% vaccinated) but other places around Italy are lagging a bit behind (but catching up).

We are all ready to welcome you back, and this is definitely a wonderful time to visit Italy! Few tourists, peaceful, and affordable :)

These rules remain the same:

(1) Fully vaccinated USA tourists may enter Italy
(2) USA tourists whom have recovered from Covid-19 may enter Italy
(3) Anyone showing a negative PCR test may enter Italy
(4) No QUARANTINE if you relate to points (1) and (2) above
(5) Contact tracing document is still required to enter italy

What changed is this:

(5) If fully vaccinated, you may enter Italy without a negative RT-PCR test

Until Late July 2021, even vaccinated like myself had to take an RT-PCR test before getting on the international flight. This is no longer the case for those of us whom are vaccinated

(6) Your CDC vaccination card works to enter anything indoors (including restaurants and museums)

This is like Europe’s new “digital green pass”

(7) If you enter italy non-vaccinated and with only a negative rt-pcr test, you have to quarantine for 5 days to then take a second test in italy

This is not advisable as it can get super complicated to deal wtih the authorities AND you’d have to take a covid test each and every time you want to eat at a restaurant or visit a museum :/

Italy’s projected date of reopening
of tourism TRAVEL is May 16th, 2021

Prime Minister Mario Draghi has announced the reopening of Italian borders to USA tourism beginning mid-May 2021. This is important to the ravished tourism industry in Italy. The rules are not set is stone quite yet, however, they hint at the following:

(1) Fully vaccinated USA tourists may enter Italy
(2) USA tourists whom have recovered from Covid-19 may enter Italy
(3) Anyone showing a negative PCR test may enter Italy

• No quarantine required

• Yes contact tracing paperwork required

• This is not to say that Italy is free and clear of Covid-19. Italian region have their own rules regarding border openings and closures, nighttime curfews, limited numbers within museums and restaurants, mask wearing, etc…

• I am EXCITED for this welcome news, but caution you that tourism travel to Italy beginning mid-May 2021 will absolutely not be free and clear of virus restrictions, as it was before the pandemic hit. There will not be the same freedoms you remember from before the pandemic, not yet.

• This year, with these new border openings, you are welcome to join me in Italy from May 24 to July 13, 2021, then again from September 20 to October 15, 2021. I will be in Italy planning my future Divora tours and am more than happy to organize and accompany you for brief wine tastings, restaurant experiences, day time tours and cooking classes. This 2021 year will be open to short but of so sweet culinary adventures with me, so join me!
