LAZIO

LAZIO: is a beautiful region (the capital of which is Rome) in the center of Italy. Lazio offers mountains, hills, beaches, rivers, volcanic lakes, hilltop medieval and Etruscan villages, and big cities. The cuisine varies from one area to the other, as it is all based on the local subsistence. Bracciano Lake is an example of a volcanic lake, with Bracciano, Trevignano and Anguillara as examples of three medieval hilltop towns surrounding it, with delicious lake-based fish cuisine. Bracciano is where my grandfather is from and where I have lived for some time, when not in Rome. Rome is only 35 minutes by car (and 30 minutes by train) away… Orvieto is a stunning Etruscan/Medieval hilltop walled town about one hour north of Rome by car or train, with stunning world-famous white wines, a beautiful Duomo and St Patrick’s Well as one of the important UNESCO sites.
