[Italian White Wine Review] Val D’Aosta: PRIÈ BLANC Rayon Blanc de Morgex et de la Salle

WHITE WINE FROM Val d’Aosta:
PRIÈ BLANC Rayon Blanc de Morgex et de la Salle

This is Italy’s highest altitude wine region, Val D’Aosta. 1200 meters above sea level in the western Italian Alps (bordering France), in the two communes of Morgex and Salle (you can see Morgex in the map below).

Prié Blanc reminds us of the high mineralogy of this territory, and its high acidity reflects the difficulty of the grape varietals’ ability to mature at such high altitude and shortened growing season. Present are hints of balsamic and mountain flowers, too.

On the palate it is intense and very persistent, with decisive notes of citrus and non mature green mountain fruit, not very balanced not harmonious which is very typical of this varietal and of the territory on which it is grown. It is a wine that reminds us of alpine Riesling, Chardonnay and Sauvignon, but in itself is very unique and unmistakable. This varietal would certainly be perfect if used as a classic method (Champagne method) bubble.

As a food pairing, we recommend a dense and flavorful mountain fish such as trout.

Prié Blanc was a pleasant discovery for us in its uniqueness and intensity.

Remember: keep drinking quality and not quantity! :)
